This newsletter is the first that Panix is sending to our current active customers. We expect to send a few (probably 3 or 4) of these every year on an irregular basis. If you don't want to get this mail in the future, send mail to newsletter-optout@panix.com and we'll take you off the list. Also, if you would like to handle the newsletter with a filter, it will always have a "X-Panix-Newsletter:" header. However, we *strongly* urge you to read this. It's short, and it will introduce you to a variety of Panix services including features of your account that you might not be aware of and free upgrades to your service that are yours for the asking. As we introduce new services, we expect to write about them in future newsletters.
Copies of panix newsletters will be posted to panix.announce, and discussion of them can be held in panix.upgrade or panix.questions, as appropriate. As usual, feel free to mail us at staff@panix.com
Panix has rolled out our Webmail service. This feature is available to both corporate mailbox users and personal account holders. There is no charge to use this new service.
All Corporate POP Mailboxes can already be accessed via Webmail. Simply go to the following URL in any internet Web browser (e.g. Netscape, Internet Explorer) to access your account: https://mail.panix.com
You will be able to send and receive email, set up forwarding or a vacation message, and even enable spam filtering through SpamAssassin.
We haven't converted all personal account holders into the new mail system
because of the dramatically more complex nature of the Unix mail services we
offer. If you are interested, please have a look at this page
http://www.panix.com/help/mail.checklist.html
to determine whether the new system is ready for you. We'll need to
arrange an appointment; more information is available on that web page.
By the way, the new mail system also has a variety of other cool features,
like IMAP support. Please see
http://www.panix.com/help/mail.newmail.html
for more information about these new features.
Tired of getting inundated with unsolicited commercial email? Start filtering your mail with SpamAssasin today. SpamAssassin is a program available on Panix's servers, which filters out likely spam before it reaches your inbox. Corporate POP Mailbox users and others in the new mail system can enable SpamAssassin by going to their account in the webmail server and selecting "Options". (For more about the new mail system, see item 1.)
Unix shell users can enable SpamAssassin when connected to their account via telnet or ssh. More information on SpamAssassin can be found at: http://www.panix.com/panix/help/spamassassin.html

Despite the trouble we were having with the new dialup lines after the transition, we believe that everything is working properly now. This means that at this point, we have NO KNOWN PROBLEMS with our dialup services (with the exception of a very few customers in Jersey City). If you are experiencing any problems with our dialup lines, please don't assume that they are systemic problems that we're already aware of- they are almost certainly unique to your use, and we can help you resolve them. If you do have such trouble please contact us at support@panix.com.
Panix Business Express SDSL customers who switch to a fractional or full T1
leased line of equal or greater cost can do so with no penalty. Panix will
waive the early termination fee for the SDSL line. Or, you can keep your
SDSL line as backup for your T1 line at dramatically reduced rates
(typically 50% off or more). Have a look at

Panix is finally, after a year of intensive development, announcing a new service for business customers. This service is revolutionary in execution, if not concept, and to the best of our knowledge, nobody else offers anything like it.
Unlike the product itself, the web site is incomplete and will probably remain under construction for some time to come, but there's already a lot of information available there. Please see http://www.grandcentralserver.com for information about this service. We'll be paying referral fees for this service too - see http://www.panix.com/panix/corp/gcsreferrals.html
